Citizenship testing was introduced in Australia in 2007 and has continued to be a matter of debate. Countries in Europe and North America have designed and administered citizenship tests for over a decade. Macquarie University is undertaking a research project which draws together academic expertise in Law, European Languages and Cultures, Linguistics, History, Politics and Philosophy to analyze:

• The impact of citizenship testing internationally
• Linguistic, historical, and cultural factors in citizenship testing
• Legal issues
• Philosophical and political debates about the changing concepts of citizenship in globalised societies

In conjunction with a conference on the issues of citizenship testing and national identity an exhibition focusing on artworks by emigre artists has been organised by the IUEU Centre and the Macquarie University Art Gallery. This exhibition will be on public display in the Exhibition Space of the Macquarie University Library.

The exhibition is open to the public between Thursday 4th December and Thursday 19th December 2008. During this time the library will be open between 8 am and 6 pm Mondays to Fridays (the library is closed Saturdays and Sundays during the semester break).
